Land clearing in Saraland turns a wooded or overgrown lot into open ground for a new house and driveway. The city's Census count rose from 13,405 people in 2010 to 16,171 in 2020, a gain of about a fifth. That is about 2,800 more people in ten years, and each new home needs a lot ready to build on. EMCO Builders, based in Elberta, takes on clearing a wooded lot or acreage in and around Saraland.
Our compact track loader, a skid steer on tracks, does the clearing, with the attachment picked for the job. A lot you want opened up with the soil still covered calls for mulching the underbrush in place. In Saraland plan review, a common holdup is a disturbed area and landscape buffer that are not clearly defined. When your plan marks that line, the machine clears to it and the buffer stays standing.

Land clearing on a Saraland lot starts with one decision: what comes out and what stays standing. Saraland enacted a Landscaping Ordinance that applies to new projects, so read it before the clearing line gets set. A house site gets cleared to dirt, stumps included, while a field may only need bush hogging. Material that has to leave gets piled and loaded out, and the written estimate spells out how it leaves.
The Mobile area averages 66 inches of rain a year, so a cleared lot has to be shaped to drain. Saraland plan review also flags site plans that show no grades or no storm water calculations. Our part is grading the ground so water runs off where your plan sends it. The crew also builds new gravel driveways on a graded base, with a crown that sheds water to the sides.
Saraland counted 5,828 homes at the 2010 Census and 6,698 at the 2020 Census, about 900 more. The Census Bureau's 2024 survey estimate dates about 1,000 of the city's roughly 7,400 homes to 2010 or later. That works out to about one home in seven, each built on ground that had to be readied first. If your Saraland lot is still wooded, land clearing is the first job before a builder can start.
US 43, called Saraland Boulevard in town, and I-65 are the two main north-south routes through Saraland. The city borders Prichard to the southwest and Chickasaw to the south, with Satsuma and Creola to the northeast. East of town lies the undeveloped northern end of Mobile, a separate city with its own rules. Near any of those town lines, the address decides whose rules apply, so confirm it before the machine starts.
Bayou Sara drains the city, and it flows east until it meets the Mobile River. Low ground near the bayou can stay soft after heavy rain, and even a tracked machine can rut it. The city's interactive web map shows flood zones and wetlands, so look up your lot there before any clearing. Wetland ground can bring rules of its own, and our guide to clearing near wetlands explains how those rules work.
Permits come next: the City of Saraland Building Department lists its own Land Disturbance Permit and a separate Tree Permit. For a driveway culvert at the street, the city lists a Right of Way Permit. A site that will disturb one acre or more of land also needs state stormwater permit coverage from ADEM. Confirm which permits apply to your address with the City of Saraland Building Department before any work starts.
