Concrete driveway repair calls across Baldwin and Mobile County start with the same three complaints. A crack that runs the full width of the drive. A slab that dropped at the garage apron, so the edge catches a tire. Concrete broken into pieces where heavy loads turn in. EMCO Builders works out of Elberta, and the same failures show up from Foley and Robertsdale to Gulf Shores. The crack is the symptom, so the first job is finding what put it there.
This page covers the concrete drive, apron, walk or parking pad you already have. Putting in a brand-new concrete driveway or apron where there was none belongs on its own page. So does fixing a gravel driveway instead, since stone and concrete fail in different ways. The cause comes first: the base, the water under the slab, the clay, the roots or the load. Then the failed concrete comes out and fresh concrete goes back on a base we rebuild first.

The first look goes under the slab. The crack shows where it broke, and the ground under it shows why. We check where the rain goes and whether the ground has washed out along an edge. We look at how the drive sits against the garage. Roots, clay and a base that was never packed each leave their own marks. A slab that cracks, sinks or heaves is almost always a base problem. Reading that first keeps the new concrete from failing the way the old concrete did.
Failed sections get saw-cut at the joints and broken out, so the sound concrete beside them stays put. We lift the pieces, pile them and load them out. The estimate says how they leave the property. The base gets stripped of roots and soft dirt, shaped so water leaves, and packed down. Forms and reinforcement go in, and the concrete goes down. Control joints get cut before the slab picks a crack of its own. Where the yard sends water at the drive, the estimate covers rebuilding the base and the drainage under it.
Mobile is the wettest metro in the lower 48 states, at about 67 inches of rain a year. July alone averages more than 7 inches. Those summer downpours are the driveway killer. Water finding its way under a slab is what takes concrete apart here. It carries sand out from under an edge, and the slab above that hollow drops and cracks. A storm like Sally in 2020 leaves water standing long enough to soak a base through.
Ground decides the rest. Sandy loam near the coast drains fast, and it shifts and washes out from under a slab edge. Red clay inland holds water, swells, and lifts a joint until the slab breaks over it. The Robertsdale soils stay saturated near the surface through late winter and spring. Pine roots lift slabs from below. A crushed or blocked pipe sends water right where it does the most damage. We flag a crushed culvert under the drive on the estimate, because that one is a culvert job.
How much of the drive failed sets the job. One cracked panel, or a corner that dropped at the apron, can come out on its own. We saw-cut it at the joints and pour it back on a rebuilt base. A drive cracked end to end and sunk in several places has a base problem down its whole length. That one comes out and goes back as a new pour. Patching over a failed base fails again the same way.
Our fix is tear-out and repour on a rebuilt base. Lifting foams, overlays and crack fillers are surface products from a different trade. Concrete that comes out for good, with nothing poured back, means tearing out a whole slab or foundation. Where the concrete is sound and the trouble is the ground beside it, the estimate stays small. Either way, you get a free written estimate after an on-site look. It names the fix and the reason for it.
From the first walkthrough to the final one, here’s exactly how your project runs.
We come out and look at the actual ground: the growth, the slope, the wet spots and the access. We listen to what you want done and give you a clear, written estimate. No pressure and no phone-quote guessing.
We lock in a date, plan equipment access and where debris goes, and account for drainage and any lines or wetlands to protect. You know the plan before anything starts moving.
Our crew runs our own track loader and its attachments, keeps the site clean and keeps you posted. Decades of experience means we read the ground and adjust instead of tearing it up.
We walk the finished property with you, load out or mulch whatever the plan called for, and leave the ground clean, graded, and ready for whatever you are building next.
